Birdwatching in the Alentejo

Birdwatching in the Alentejo

Located in the heart of ecological reserve, the farmhouse is an ideal base for those interested in ornithology.  Many species of colourful and rare birds are sighted here each year.
We are located within a short drive of the Castro Verde plains where rare species are noted to be breeding:  the lesser kestrel and the great bustard are amongst these.

Special (unguided) watching weekends/3-night breaks during
March to May 31st - €150

Guided birding may be arranged, subject to availability

Birdwatching on the terrace

Vultures, eagles, stork, bunting, kite, harrier, bee eater, nuthatch, hoopoe, woodpecker have all been spotted this year on or near our land.
Three short-toed eagles were spotted in April, 2010, flying over the paddocks.  One caught a snake and ate it in midair.
